Oppo Find X3 Pro 5G
Remember the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha? It had a wraparound screen which was unprecedented and a beast to produce. It didn’t even get a proper commercial release and it may have single handedly killed off the Mi Mix series. This time we’re getting an approach which may feel a bit similar, through a super curved display on an Oppo phone.
Oppo patented a stylish device, the Oppo Find X3 Pro 5G smartphone with a beautiful rounded back side. The patent has as usual been turned into renders by Letsgodigital. The Find X series was all about innovation, first through a sliding camera, then through fast charge and 120 Hz refresh rate on a Quad HD resolution and now apparently via a super curved screen, coupled with an under display camera. Waterfall screens are now the past, so apparently we need the next big thing.
Oppo filed a patent at the end of 2019, showing a special design for a new smartphone. It was all approved and published on October 9th 2020. Four model versions were shown, each with differences in screen curvature. One of the models sees the screen continuing further than the others. There’s also a model with expands the screen’s curve towards the back and one that’s very long, Sony Xperia-like with a 21:9 aspect ratio. It’s also a full screen phone with no real bezels, except for a tiny top one for the earpiece.
The problem with phones that have screens going all the way around is that they become very slippery and can be dropped easily. Also, they usually kill off buttons, meaning you can’t try and press them without looking at the phone or in the dark. It’s a trend that will reappear every once in a while, but it may never stick, like the transparent phone.
