Motorola RAZR 2020

Motorola RAZR 2020 was one of the most polarizing phones of 2020, since it took a courageous approach when it came to foldables. It dodged the whole “phone that turns into a tablet” thing and provided a clamshell of all things. It was decently received, even though postponed right now. And now we go into 2020, trying to have a look at its successor.

The Motorola RAZR 2020 has been rendered by Techconfigurations, who kept the main screen that folds down the middle and also added an extra one in the chin. The external secondary screen is also much bigger now. Moto RAZR 2020 is no longer a midrange phone, like the previous unit. This time it goes crazy with the specs, featuring a 6.7 inch P-OLED screen, a Snapdragon 865 processor and 8 or 12 GB of RAM. There’s up to 512 GB of storage inside and a 4000 mAh battery (I wonder how they crammed one inside?), plus a dual camera with a 16 MP sensor, a 12 MP one and also a Time of Flight 3D unit.

There’s something very supercar-ish about that shiny chin with a screen in it. The hinge mechanism seems to have stayed the same and also the chin size is the same, at first sight. Luckily there seems to be no more notch in the screen, at the top side. Honestly, having an extra display on the chin sounds a bit like overkill for me, so 3 screens is too much at this point. Especially since both external screens do pretty much the same: show notifications, shortcuts, the works.

The Moto RAZR 2020 seems slimmer, even when folded and places the fingerprint scanner within the screen panel now. The bottom bar in the chin is an intelligent one, that adapts to the situation and displays what you may need, like emojis for a conversation. Screen-wise, we get the following setup: a 2.5 inch exterior screen, a 0.7 inch screen in the chin and a 6.5 inch primary display. The main screen now does 90 Hz refresh rate and has a P-OLED Quad HD panel.

The designer even mentions the debut date of November 2020 for the device and also a starting price of 1600 USD. I fear for the battery life of this device, on account of it having 3 screens and all.
