Samsung Galaxy Stick or Samsung Rolling Display Phone Feels

I must admit I’ve seen such “scroll phones” before and I remember a Sony one particularly well. The idea is to have a core, like a Nintendo Switch Joy Con, that stores all key components and a pull out, rollable and flexible sheet serving as the screen. Let’s meet the Samsung Galaxy Stick.

Yanko Design created this concept and based it on the LG rolling Smart TV that was showcased at CES 2019. Samsung Galaxy Stick brings an edge to edge display, when fully opened, but turns into a small technological stick when closed. The folded it’s small enough to fit in a pocket or bag, much like a TV remote let’s say. It’s bulkier than the usual phone, but also very narrow.

There are actually two tactile surfaces: one on the core device and one that slides from the units left side. It flexes and feels like a scroll, an ancient scroll brought into the modern age. Not sure if the sliding is done both to the left and the right and if you can flip the device. The Samsung Galaxy Stick can also be used in the “stick” format, taking calls, authenticating your fingerprint and even scrolling around apps.

You probably won’t be able to reply to texts on such a small and narrow screen. It would also be interesting to see if the screen can be open to degrees, or just fully. This concept definitely gets my vote.
