iPhone 12 Pro Gets New Renders

One of the longest standing names in the segment of concept phones and phone designs is definitely the one of Jonas Daehnert aka Phone Designer. We saw some nifty Nokia devices from him, Lumias rather and a few solid Microsoft Surface Phone designs. Now he’s back with an iPhone 12 Pro, which he crafted according to the latest leaks and rumors.

We see the device in black and white and the inspiration from the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 is pretty clear here. The metal frame is prominent and the antenna cutouts are clear. The back camera remains with a square module, but this time it includes 4 sensors, coming from the 3 on the iPhone 11 Pro. The flash is placed between those sensors. Still can’t make out if the back is covered with glass or metal, but it’s probably matte glass, since the unibody metal design is dated nowadays. Also, it would stop wireless charging.

The notch appears to be smaller, just like the leaks said and the buttons are more refined. Narrower bezels also wouldn’t hurt, but I’m pretty curious if Apple would let the device have a flat screen, or put a curved edge screen on it. Basically, this render shows a very angular phone, which is not very trendy now. Look at the curves of the Huawei P40 Pro (curved in 4 corners), or the ones of the Oppo Find X2 series. However, the iPhone SE 2 is pretty angular…

The problem with an angular phone is ergonomics. After a long period of usage it leaves an imprint on your palm and “cuts” into it when it gets hot during games. The must be a balance between angular and curved. I think the frame of the iPhone 12 Pro needs to be narrower.
