OPPO, Huawei and Vivo dominate the Chinese smartphone market in 2017
IDC, the research firm, has released results of the this autumn 2016 market sales in China. As per these results, the smartphone market has had a 19 percen quarter-on-quarter growth and a 17 percent quarter-on-quarter growth in this autumn 2016. However, while China is sometimes far-famed to be an enormous marketplace for smartphones so the expansion isn’t out of the normal, the big news here is that OPPO, Huawei and Vivo dominated the Chinese smartphone market in 2016. What’s more, Apple has also had a unsatisfying run in China for the 1st time in years.
Collectively, OPPO, Huawei, Vivo grabbed a market share of 57 percent in 2016 from 46 percent in 2015. OPPO claimed the top spot, selling 78.4 million units, and grabbing 16.8 percent of the market share. What was even commendable about OPPO was that it had managed to additional than double its market share – from thirty 5.3 million units in 2015.
Huawei came in second, grabbing 16.4 percent of the market share, with a marginal increase over its previous year’s performance. Vivo claimed the third spot, grabbing 14.8 percent of the market share. Vivo too saw tremendous improvement of 96.9 percent in year-over-year growth. Apple slipped to the fourth spot, having sold 44.9 million units with a market share of only 9.6 percent. When compared to the previous year, Apple had a decrease of 23.2 percent.
The research firm has quipped that the reason for Apple’s decline could be due to the non-popularity of the new iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus as compared to its predecessors, rather than better sales of its competitors. However, most suspect that Apple could regain lost ground with the launch of its upcoming smartphone this year.
Xiaomi has been on a losing streak with a decrease of almost 36 percent when compared to the previous year.
